40 million apps. 40 thousand companies.

I used to think more apps meant more companies. Then I watched the graveyard grow.
I used to treat a live URL like a win. Ship the page. Drop a Stripe button. Post the link. For a few hours it felt like a company had been born.
Then I started counting. Lovable crossed 40 million apps. Every other builder piled millions more on top. Barely 40 thousand of them make impact or revenue. The rest is a cemetery of things that could ship and never operate. If building were the job, we would already be done. We are not. The job was never the first URL.
A live URL is not a P&L
I have watched founders do the whole sprint before lunch. Landing page. Waitlist. A checkout that works on the first try. None of that is a company. A company has a customer who came back. A channel that did not die after one tweet. A memory of what was tried. Someone watching runway when the founder is asleep.
Product without distribution is a screenshot you send to friends. Distribution without memory is the same ad every week, getting worse. Revenue without ops is a lucky month that you cannot explain, and therefore cannot repeat.
Where the 40 million go
The death is almost never in the compiler. It is in the week after launch. I keep seeing the same four endings. Pretty UI, no wedge, nobody returns. A repo, no loop that sells, the founder gets bored. A launch tweet, no channel that compounds, silence after day two. A Stripe link, no ops that collect and keep, one refund, then freeze.
| What shipped | What was missing | How it dies |
|---|---|---|
| Pretty UI | A wedge and a buyer | Nobody returns |
| A repo | A loop that sells | The founder gets bored |
| A launch tweet | A channel that compounds | Silence after day two |
| A Stripe link | Ops that collect and keep | One refund, then freeze |
Growth is not a plugin
People treat GTM like a feature you bolt on after the demo. Add a newsletter. Add an affiliate. Add an agent that DMs. I have tried that stacking. If the company cannot remember what worked, the next week is a coin flip. If nothing runs overnight, you only grow when you are typing.
That is the quiet part of the 40 million. Not that they failed to ship. That they only existed while someone was looking.
If you have to wake the model up, you are still doing the job.
The company that keeps founding
Voyd exists for the 40 thousand, and for everyone who should have been in that number. One idea. A live company. Growth, memory, rails, and founding that does not stop when you close the laptop.
That is the work. The UI was the easy part. I learned that the long way, one cold repo at a time.
